I have a Compaq Presario 5430 US Series 5000
Intel Pentium 4 1.8Ghz processor
768 MB RAM
160 GB Hard Drive
DVD ROM drive and CD-RW Burner
ASUS A99550GE/TD/128MB DDR AGP 4x8x Video Card
computer.
I wiped the hard drive clean with an install of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS using the default setup options. No error messages or problems occurred during the install process. When booting for the first time, however, the error message on the screen said:
Error 15: file not found
There was a grub rescue> command prompt.
I found a thread on ubuntu forums with a similar problem; however, the solution did not work as prescribed.

Working off the post from April 8th, 2005 #5 Just Give Me the Bean, I got to step 3, but got an error stating that grub was not installed yet, and it gave the command to install it. (I installed it, despite the fact that I was able to locate the folder named Grub in the installed file system.)
Then, I reached step 4 and got:
[ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For
the first word, TAB lists possible command
completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible
completions of a device/filename. ]
grub> find /boot/grub/stage1
Error 15: File not found
and am clueless as to where to proceed next.
This is the first time I have ever encountered any problem installing ubuntu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
