hey guys,

I basically need some tips and advice on how to speed up webpage loading on any browser (firefox, opera, chrome, etc).

I basically have been using mandriva for over a year now. I remember back when firefox was less than version 3.0 -- it was blazing fast on any linux distro. But now its slow. Opera and Chrome are not as bad (but firefox / opera / chrome runs much much faster on window OS).

Now I have just finished re-installing mandriva (hdd wiped clean) with the latest build (2010.1 spring edition) and I am seeing similar problem - webpage loading slowly. But when I boot up using any linux live cd / dvd (mandriva, pclinux os, etc) webpage loading seems really fast !

What I've done in the past and now, to compensate for firefox slow response, I click on START PRIVATE BROWSING .. and .. webpage loads much much faster !!! why is this ??

I left all the settings (cache, etc) on default. Is there a tweak that we can do to make it run faster ?

Try this in Forefox

about:config

search for network.dns.disableIPv6

and change from false to true.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Network.dns.disableIPv6

Not sure what to tell you about the other two if that improves anything.

Opera is running slow, and I would hate to switch browsers I love opera so much... ATM, I am only running 512mb of ram. Opera will run fast for awhile, then it will slow down to a halt once it takes up too much memory.

I have tried eliminating the memory cache and disabling the history, but those things didn't solve the problem.

Is there a way to limit the amount of memory Opera uses?
