Maximum PC

I just got my backup PC redone by a computer tech friend of mine..I'm now running Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit. How do I change the refresh rate from the default 60 Hz?
(Do I have to install the Nvidia 3D-accelerated video drivers?)

I'm using a Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 200 22-in CRT.

Assuming the monitor was setup correctly you should be able to change it by executing gnome-display-properties (either via a terminal or run application)

Not sure where you'd find it in through the menus in Ubuntu (maybe in the gnome control panel). I fear that this question may lead to how do I setup my monitor correctly because 60 is your only choice

Its System --> Prefrences --> Display.

And for the OP, if you need to change to the nVidia proprietary driver, look here. Though thats probably going to be when and not if.

I changed the resolution to 1792x1344 and that allowed me to select other refresh rates.(I'm currently running it at 75 Hz.) Hope that fixes it.
