Maximum PC

I had 64bit Windows 7 installed. I then shrunk my secondary partition and installed Ubuntu. The only problem is that I am not given the option to boot into Ubuntu when I start my pc. Any remedy?

Where / how did you install Grub?

Wasn't there a boot installed system option on the main menu choices when one boots the CD?

I guess to be clear, are you still seeing the windows 7 boot loader or actually seeing a grub menu?

I installed it on a 5gb partition on my raid array. As for grub, I have no idea what that is. All I can say is that my pc boots up as if I never installed Ubuntu.

Grub is a bootloader similar in functionality to the windows bootloader if you dual booted say windows 7 and Vista or XP. It is also the default boot manager for most popular linux distros.

I hate to break it like this, but you really haven't offered much other then "it doesn't work", so you should probably give this a once over.

With that in mind, I'm more interested in how many HDs you actually have on this machine, what sort of RAID controller are you using and what happened during the installation and were you trying to install using a tool called Wubi?

I guess it should go without asking if you downloaded what's in general release or the beta of lucid lynx?

I'd also be curious if you can see if any partitioning occurred for the installation. You should see some pretty unique partition in disk management if that occurred.

Ok so I deleted my 5gb partition that had Ubuntu. I then booted into the option on the Ubuntu cd that lets you try it without installing. I then clicked the little icon that said install. I was installing it to my 4gb flash drive. At 95% it said Grub fatal error and then the install stopped.
