Ok, so I downloaded Fedora Core and burned the like 4 CD's, so I go to install, boot from cd, yada yada... go ahead, graphical install, then it checks a bunch of stuff out, listing all of this stuff (my hardware) and then boom. black screen. then it just stays there... wtf? also, it seems that many people do not like FC... And rather debian over it, for learning purposes. If I don't mind posting problems on here every day would that be a way to go? if so, stable or testing? Thanks,

-bazzel

holy mother of glory... i just looked for the debian torrent, there are torrents for each CD? And there are like 14 cd's? This can't be right...

i go here for the "testing" version

http://ftp.acc.umu.se/pub/cd-images/deb ... /torrents/

then go to i386 right? And there are liken 15 iso's... this could possibly take forever... can't be right...

EDIT: AHH, nvm, figured that one out... only need till CD3 for what I will be doing, basic use...

Hey B20,
Don't forget to check out this post as well - I've gotten some great feedback on the best way to download and install Debian :)

Ok, I downloaded the first 3, burned the images to CD. Boot from CD, first screen comes up but the Debian logo (i assume thats what it is?) is all hacked up and crazy like (i dont REALLY know what it says...) and then when I go to install it starts scanning my hardware for like a page and a half and then cuts to a black screen... and stays there until i kill the computer... any ideas?

sounds like a bad burn/corrupted iso...if you know how to run md5sum use it....you should find the iso checksums in the same location you got the iso.
