In the KDE GUI under the K start (lower left corner), look under utilities, or system or what not. There should be QTParted. Its a GUI version of "Parted"

Its still very beta IMO - I have had trouble with it.

Hey Zambini, do you get MPC? Will Smith has what appears to be a really good article on Linux. I just started reading it, if you have the Feb issue, check it out.

Are you trying to install Knoppix onto your HD? Or do you just want to run Knoppix from the CD? You don't need to install Knoppix to use qtparted.

BTW - when you see "-" it normally has a space before it like this list command:

ls -s

not ls-s

Hope that helps.

If you want to install knoppix, I have more modern instructions, that page is for version 3.3 I think.

Let me know.

The command that I have is "sudo knoppix-installer"

Thats probably qtparted starting up and trying to get a partion ready for your install.

Is this a single boot system or multiboot? Are you wanting to put knoppix on its own drive (I highly recommend this if you are going to dual boot with Windows).

Oh wait - are you at a window that has a list of options like "configure installation", "start installation" etc...?

Hmm...looking....ok, are you at a window that says "Create Partition"?

I just need a bit more info.

There really isn't a pres. so to speak I don't think, but what is the person's name

I might have a few questions you can ask.

hey blondie-
while at LAX i picked up the feb 05 issue (the one with Will's article in it) and i am going to try to install Debian
unsuccessful linux installs:
Fedora core 3
fedora core 2

Successful (kinda)
Knoppix, although i do not know how to install to hd yet... :/ but i did mess with the kpartition manager thing so i got my other partitions done with ;) and i did learn some great vocabulary with Will Smith's article too, so i might be successful yet

Manta Ray-
Im @ a DOS looking screen, it says some stuff about Knoppix installation requirements not met, please create a partition etc. Im runnin kpart (WHENEVER I SAY kpart, i will be referring to QTParted because its easier) and im gonna make a new partition on it to try it again ;)

and its Single Boot , no windows crap on THIS machine ^-^

Okay now im typing everything i see
i type in "sudo knoppix-installer"
then it beeps
then it goes bloo screen and says:
INITIALISATION OF KNOPPIX-INSTALLATION
This script will install knoppix to the hard disk. Note that this version is still an very early version and under heavy development. (etc etc)

Options: OK

(next page)
INITIALISATION OF KNOPPIX-INSTALLATION
The installer detected that the installation requirements are not fullfillled yet.

Please make sure that you have a free partition with at least 2 gb to instlall knoppix on.. Also we need a swap partition with at least 128 mb, if you dont have 512 mbor more. (etc etc)

Options: ok
next one
Knoppix Partition-Menu
Choose an action:
1. Partition
2. Quit
Options: ok, quit, help- Selected OK on action # 1
next screen
Partitioning harddisk for knoppix
Choose one disk:
( ) hda Quantium fireball lct 15 30 (30.0203 GB)

Options: next, quit, previous, help-- Chose: Next after bubbling in the hda
next screen
cfdisk2.11u
Disk drive: 30020272128 bytes, 30.0 GB
Heads: 240 Sectors per track: 63 Cylinders: 3877
then it lists my partitions
ive got 2, both of em i made
one is:
Name-----Flags-----Part Type-----FS Type-----Label--------Size (MB)
hda1------boot------primary-------linux ext3--knoppixroot--5240.96
hda2-----------------primary-------linux------------------------5000.98
-----------------------Pri/log------free space-------------------19771.64

WHAT DO I DO!! ARH this is where i get stucked

I read the side bars 1st, now I'm on the nVidia part, great article so far, nothing I could do. I have Red Hat Pro, had it installed as a dual boot at one time, was very easy to install. I also cheated & bought the disks, for some reason I had a problem downloading the files.

Have fun, don't rip your hair out.
