Google Chrome works like a champ and feels faster than it was in XP.
Spore also works fine, though it feels a bit slower than XP .. perhaps because I'm using generic Intel drivers for my integrated video.
uTorrent works perfectly as well.

All my games and apps work great. Some drivers you ahve to run in compatibility mode though. On the kype: latest version crashes and is bugged out. If you download the skype 4 beta, it works fine.

Funny, I have Skype 3.8 and it's running fine. Haven't had a single problem yet and I use it heavily for all my calls from home....

Weird .. it works for me... and if you do a Google it works for most people too. It's what I use to dual boot Linux and Windows 7.

Also Opera 10 Alpha works.. Google Chrome v2 works (dev. alpha).

@ Budgetperson

Hmm.. I have a triple boot (Ubuntu 7.10, XP and Windows 7) and all I did was change the name from "Earlier version of Windows" to "Windows XP", the timeout rate and set XP as the default OS, restarted and got a ntldr error. It just couldn't find the partition. Couldn't figure it out, so seeing how it was a fresh install, I just reinstalled 7 (pretty quick) and am just using its built in boot editor with GRUB on top.

These programs work:

windirstat
cpu-z
gpu-z

Interesting.... all I did was add Linux to the list of bootloaders (after installing grub to my partition, of course) and that worked. So I guess I got lucky. By the way you can restore the booloader by getting your Win 7 Cd, booting up, selecting repair mode, going into command prompt, and typing
Code:
Bootrec.exe /FixMbr
. [/quote]

Steam (and any source game so far)
Bioshock (runs faster than in Vista)
Synergy
Trillian
WinRAR
gTalk

Doesn't work:
Creative X-Fi Exteme Audio drivers/software (causes BSoD)

edit: Pinnacle TVCenter Pro - was working, but now it crashes every time it starts. Something with the audio. I'll blame part of that on the sluggish Pinnacle software, the other blame goes to the weird audio handler in Vista and W7.

Speedfan works

AVG works

Firefox 3.0.5 works

Logitech SetPoint works

Filezilla works

7Zip works

VLC works, but had some weird audio after 10 minutes of watching a DVD.

Media Player Classic Homecinema - Working, but UAC goes off every time I start it. Have to use "System Default" for DirectShow Audio Output. If I use DirectSound it fails.

AC3 Filter - Doesn't seem to be working

Downloaded ALchemy from Creative and it installed well enough.

So far everything works except Yahoo mail. The Classic version works fine, but not the newer ones doesn't. It says that this Yahoo doesn't support this OS version.

I am using the IE that comes with it, haven't tried Firefox with it.

EDIT:
Yahoo mail works fine with Firefox under 7.

IE8 beta and Adobe reader are hit and miss in my 1st weeks however the latest acrobat update seems to resolve the ask to run issue.

Edit

Steam.
Xfire worked with out a problem. That great considering Xfire wouldn't work with out a driver written for it so UAC would allow it to run.

If anyone is having issues installing a program where Installshield is either throwing up a error code or crashing with no reason as to why here is a solution straight from Microsoft. I would proved a link to the steps but since it came up in my Action Center. I can vouch it worked for me on PowerDVD 8 Ultra after the launcher was stopping on a 1628 error. It also stopped my installer from crashing when i tried to install Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Hope this helps others.

Code:
Solve a problem with Windows 7 beta

An issue with the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) client in Windows 7 beta is causing Explorer and some MSI-based installers to stop working properly.

To solve this problem, follow these steps:

1. Click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Accessories.

2. Right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.  In the User Account Control window, verify that Program name is Windows Command Processor, and then click Yes.

3. In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type or paste the following text at the prompt:

   reg delete HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SQMClient\Windows\DisabledSessions /va /f

4. Press Enter to install the solution.

5. If The operation completed successfully displays, close the Administrator: Command Prompt window to complete this procedure. If "ERROR: Access is denied" displays, repeat this procedure from the top, making sure you clicked Run as administrator in step two.

I can verify this, it worked nicely. I'm quite franely amazed that Microsoft is telling people how to fix errors now.

Working (Win7 Ultimate x86):
- Office 2007
- MS Office Accounting 2008
- Avast! 4 Professional
- Windows Home Server Connector
- MS Intellitype and Intellipoint (there are betas (v 7.0) written for Win7)
- Quicktime Alternative/Media Player Classic.
- Windows Mobile Device Center
- ffdshow-tryouts (rev 2527, 2008-12-19)
- VSO image resizer
- Foxit PDF reader, IFilter, and editor
- Nero 7 Essentials
and, none of these needed to be installed (or run in) compatibility mode.
- Folding@Home (SMP) (fixed, 1/24)

Not working:
- Gigabyte (or Intel reference) P31 drivers. Will only launch in Vista compatibility mode, but installer errors out with 'OS not supported.' End effect: onboard USB is a bit flakey (also might explain the random BSoDs.)
*Update (1/24): was able to manually install the extracted Intel drivers (from Device Manager); however, onboard USB still flakey.

I'll try to update this post as we go.
