While following this months How To on slipstreaming SP2. I have come upon a unique problem. First off, my copy of XP PRO already has SP1a and according to what I have read from the Microsoft Knowledge Base running the Update.exe for SP2 will overwrite only those files updated in SP2. This I understand. Heres my problem during the final step of the process, preparing and burning the bootable disc image, Nero 6 and Easy CD Creator 6 are reporting that the ISO I have created is too large. The Original Disc file size is only 634MB the ISO I created IS 735MB. Where is the extra 100MB coming from if all the SP1a files have been overwritten? Did SP2 add an extra 100 MB of files? A little explanation here would be helpful.

Judging from the total image size, it doesn't look like SP2 was integrated into the install, it was just added on. Is that a Windows disk or an OEM version? Looks like it started off a bit portly. This article is a little dated, but it's got some ideas on how to trim down the ISO size. You should also check this article. It uses the integrate command instead of the update command.

Thanks, for the link. It seems the culprit was the me. I did the bonehead thing and made an image of the setupcd vice burning directly to disc. I think my coaster making software may also have had something to do with it. I updated Nero to 6.3.1.20 and valla! it works fine now.
