Hello :)

Is it possible to remove MS Windows Messenger from XP? I've tried the add/remove windows components in the control panel checking and unchecking the boxes but not matter what I do it always seems to be there.... Is this one of the MS things like IE "too much a part of the OS to be removed" or am I just overlooking something. Should there be a an entry in add/remove programs for MS Windows Messenger the way there is for Yahoo or AOL IM?

:?:

Windows Messenger is a pain to remove...I't integrated too much into Windows, and therefore is not removed through uninstalling it in windows components add/remove. If your an outlook express user, this is really annoying.

I looked around the web, and I found a way to permanently remove Windows messenger withought messing up outlook express. Here are the commands you need to use:

Click Start, Run and enter the following command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This will remove messenger, and to make sure outlook express doesnt always look for it, Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Right click in the right pane and select New, Dword value. Give it the name Hide Messenger Double click this new entry and set the value to 2.

This worked great for me. I hope this helps for you.
All the best.
Marco

Thanks Marco - although I must admit that seems like a lot of work for something I should just be able to exorcize from my computer. Thanks MS :x
