i'm looking to format and reinstall a friend's Sony VAIO desktop.
i'm wondering whether i will run into problems or not if i use my OEM copy of Windows XP and use the key that is stickered on his desktop for installation.
The pools in which Micorosft assigns keys are different for OEM CD's, and preinstalled Major OEM Images. The keys aren't interchangable. However...
I own a Sony Laptop. I didn't want all of Sony's Software interfering with my DJ software. The Sony Restore CD Set I have is 5 CD's: O/S & Drivers, Sony Applications CD 1, Sony Applications CD 2, Software CD 1, and Software CD 2.
You should be able to install the OS with Sony's drivers without any other fluff. During the initial set-up, you can specify how large the two partitions are, since Sony does partition the drive (for video purposes). If the machine has been significantly upgraded since purchase, there might be an issue or two with other hardware.
