I have recently decided to convert my CD's into .mp3 format. Granted that i can highlight and copy/move the mp3s into a unique directory. Unfortunately the cd ripping has gotten a little out of hand, looking at 50+ artists in one directory! Can someone suggest any software out there that i can buy to sort them into a directory. While keeping the name of the files intact!!
example
C:\Music\Artist\Artist - Track.mp3
I have tried a few but they seem to keep cutting off the Artist name, once it has moved the files into the Artist directory.
example
C:\Music\Artist\Track.mp3 <<<not what i am looking for!!!!!!
Thanx
Malossi

Not really sure what you mean...

So are you saying youre looking for a ripping program that automatically rips the tracks to a master mp3 folder that will create (or add to) the artist name and place the mp3 in the format of Artist - Track.mp3? Or are you just looking for a program that will automatically know how to read the mp3 file name, take the artist name, create a folder called that and add the mp3 to it?

The 1st way I know of but I dont think theres anything that will do the second one for you...

I too have no idea what you're asking for.

So heres a list of all the mp3 programs you'll ever need.

CDex is a good program for ripping cd's to mp3. I prefer the EAC + Razorlame method.

Then there's Tag & Rename for naming/editing tags.

what program did you use to encode them to MP3? programs like WMP or iTunes should be doing this automatically.

The Godfather, Foobar2000, TDT, MusicBrainz, Synchback, etc. There are a lot of freebie tag editors out there. You should be able to instruct your ripper to organize the files how you want, however. Look around the options.

In MusicMatch (what I use for MP3's) or Windows Media Player (what I use for Windows Media Lossless), there are options as to the files name, the directory(ies), and what not. I understand your pain, being a professional DJ with over 15,000 songs on my system.

And, yes, I own the originals, for anyone who asks. :)

My file system

X:\Genre\Artist\Artist - Track.xxx
