I've installed a Maxtor 200Gb disk in a casing and connected it to the puter with USB cable.
On a separate USB 2.0 card.
Partitioned it with Acronis PartitionExpert.

WARNING, ALL DATA ON NON-REMOVABL
DRIVE M: WILL BE LOST!
Proceed with Format (Y/N)? y
Verifying 194474M
The volume is too big for FAT32.

Devided it into 2 partitions and formatted one with the below result.

C:\>format L:
The type of the file system is FAT32.

Question:
How or what do I use to format the USB dive?
Can I or can't I use one big partition with FAT32?

Win2k is the O/S & because win98 shall be able to communicate properly with the other OS's in the network

I'm not sure you'll be able to partition something that big.

I beleive you'll have to create a smaller partition and then expend the partition with something else.

Have you tried to use the disk that came with the Drive instead of acronis??

and on a different note...I'm not sure why you're formating this as such with concerns for networked machines. 98 with see a NTFS share just fine

You will have to divide it into about 7 partitions to get them small enough for FAT32. Standard FAT32 has a limit of 32GB partition sizes.

Like said above, Win 98 can see NTFS files on a share drive. You are not networking the drive, you are networking the system. Confirm that to be sure.

NTFS can format up to a 2TB partition

EDIT - I failed to mention that 2TB is "in theory". The OS using it or other hardware issues may limit this as well. END EDIT
