What was that command you drop in the run box in WinXP that removes MS Messenger from the system?

There's a single command that you can drop that'll uninstall it from Windows.

You beat me to it, I was about to post that.

An FYI, in addition to the above (which is easier/quicker), you can also navigate to the hidden 'inf' folder in C:\Windows and open up sysoc.inf, and delete the 'hide' from:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

Once that's done, you can uninstall Messenger from within Control Panel's Add/Remove Window's Components.

Windows messenger.

MSN messenger is a standalone messaging prog that can be installed on other versions of windows.

Windows messenger is the built in messaging prog that comes with WinXP.

That command I gave above removes MSN Messenger, not Windows Messenger.

OK, well to my understanding MSN messenger can be uninstalled simply. In fact it isn't even on a system unless the user puts it there. Windows messenger on the other hand comes with XP and can be a pain. Not to be confused with the messenger we like to disable in services which is another animal entirely. Correct?

Edit: I just checked and the program your command refers to is windows messenger :)

msmsgs

Here's what happens, I've got a Windows XP Pro SP1 CD. When I reinstall a fresh copy of XP, MSN Messenger v4 ALWAYS loads itself up in the background however that command I listed above wipes it from the system.

Okay, lemme try to clarify this one more time.

When you reload Windows XP, that retarded MS Instant Messenging program that automatically loads itself into the right side of the task bar everytime you load Windows, is what I removed using the command I was talking about above.

heh heh :D You are right. That's where it loads alright but it is windows messenger not MS or MSN messenger. That is what the fellow earlier was asking. Which one was being refered to.

Look at my links and you will see the difference and there is a big difference.

Nope. Not the same. Windows messenger comes with XP and is fairly basic.

MSN messenger can be loaded on almost any version of windows, macs, PDA's, Phones, etc. and can be used to play small internet games, and even has it's own themes that can be downloaded. I hate it.

I do use windows messenger though. Contacts between the two use the same contact list so users of each can communicate with each other or users of one can use the other program if they prefer without a bunch of configuration hassle.

Ah well. small point but they are separate and very different.

Looks to me like you two are talking about the same god damn thing, even if you are calling it something else. Course I can't open the top link. All I can do is read the bottom link (which NC is talking about). That is the EXACT same thing that is on the task bar on the right that pisses FlyTrap off with the freakin auto icon.... Course, I still can't open the top link.

Don't know why you can't open it. It is a public link.
