Ok, this is ridiculous. Is there any Virus software out there that doesn't try to do something to screw up ones internet/computer experience?
I finally got around ton re-installing AVG onto my new SSD. After installing it I start getting all these blank pop up adds on chrome. They are blank because adblock is blocking them. I contacted AVG and they confirmed it is adware but in no way could explain why this was all installed by AVG. I also noticed that I started having problems similar to what I had before on my other drive but could not find any reason why it was happening. I have a post somewhere on these foums about a stutter problem (1 second computer freeze times). My computer didn't stutter but I would close a program and it would look like it was closed but it was still opened in task manager, so that when I tried to open it again it would not open unless I shut it down through task manager.
Anyway, the AVG customer care had to send me special instructions to uninstall this "adware" that the AVG installer installed.
Note that I first went to the AVG website and used that download link to install AVG (I would enter my license later). There must have been 8 "special offers" I had to opt out of in the installation process. I cancelled the installation process at one point because I found the original email. Even though I cancelled the installation, AVG still installed some kind of media player (of whcih would not uninstall and I had to use Revo uninstaller to remove) and the adware.
At this point I am wondering if it is AVG that caused all the problems I have had in my other drive and if it is the cause of the problems my mom is having on her computer.
Is there anywhere or anyone that does extensive testing on virus scanners and what they install? BTW, I don't trust Avast either as it installed other programs I have no use for without asking me if I wanted them. Avast also created a conflict with AVG.
So is there a virus scanner that works great and can be trusted?
