From what I've seen people recommend installing the old Picture It! version php and mix files were created with on a 32-bit version of XP. I could do that, but I don't want to dig out my old system in order to save them into a common image format. I tried XnViewer and XnConverter, both of which claim to be able to read and convert mix files, but that failed. The php files aren't text only, so opening them in any text editor results in garbage text. The next thing people recommend is any number of random programs that supposedly fix every problem, and yet have not been tested a single time with the files in question by the person recommending them. Keep in mind these are from Microsoft Works Suite 2000, not a recent version.

Install recalcitrant apps (Picture It!) and set them (it) for XP compatibility mode.

If no joy, install XP in VirtualBox under Win7, and your recalcitrant apps and have at it.

Any scripts for bulk exporting of the files? I've got over a hundred. Exporting each one individually to jpeg is going to take a while.

Command line is your friend. Or Python.

That doesn't say what specific command line scripts I should use.

What I ended up doing for the 150-ish files was copy-pasting most of them into WordPad from an XP system and saved them as .doc files. Others I was able to export as webpages; most of the webpages would fail to find images or text once started. When copy-pasting, watch out for multiple pages in documents--the entire project is not copied at once, only the page currently in view.
