Maximum PC

I currently have a Macbook Pro 13"

Problem is, I'm transferring to a university this summer, and a lot of the courses I'm taking require you have a laptop with either a Mac OS or a Windows OS. My friends have told me that the Windows OS tends to work better with the course programs versus the Mac OS.

I want to emulate Windows 7 (or on my Mac, but I just wanted to make sure: Is it safe? I'm very virus prone, and I've crashed several computers I've owned. Since I've had this mac, I've had *hopefully* no problems ever. I'm worried that emulating Windows would harm my laptop, and I tend to be a little ditsy when it comes to using the right programs to protect my laptop.

Any suggestions? Maybe on Antivirus software to purchase once I do this?

If you're thinking about using a virtual machine, then no. The beauty of virtual machines is that they're sandboxed, meaning anything that runs in it thinks that the virtual machine is all there is and can't ever see the actual computer. And if you back up the virtual hard drive after you've installed Windows and did all the usual initial setup procedures, if you get virus, delete the infected virtual hard drive and replace it with your back up.

Of course, if you started practicing safe computing habits in the first place...
