Maximum PC

Hey guys.

I am looking for a backup solution for my desktop computer. I have about 500GB of data and i am really fed up with online backups and all that. I think my best option is a hard backup using a portable hard drive or the like and storing it in a fireproof safe. (if you disagree or have any other ideas please enlighten me.) I know that i would need some kind of software and i have been out of the whole software world for a while so i dont know what the latest and greatest out there is...

Im not sure what my best way of doing this backup is. I would like to do it once a week. I was thinking possibly a mirror image of the hard drive or if there is something better i would concider that.

I am running windows 7.

I can't recommend software, since I manually do my backups.

However, regarding the fireproof safe idea, I think it's better to either get a really small portable hard drive an store what is absolutely necessary or burn them to disks. I would find it really annoying to have to pull the drive out every week to do a backup.

I'm a big fan of Acronis. It will automate the backups and has been rather consistent for me when I need to relocate my OS to a different drive. If you have USB 3.0 ports, it'll make backing up to an External relatively painless.

I am giving Syncback a shot as we speak. Looks like a really nice piece of software! I am really excited about getting this done finally.

I have a client that uses Synchback Pro to back up to externals as well as an online backup. I still prefer Acronis Home as I know their backups work pretty flawlessly.

Paragon Backup & Recovery Free is what I use and it has always worked fine for full partition backup/restores
