MS Link

From what 2cpu.com says, it's supposed to be out Tuesday. :D

I got bored, so I figured I'd start a crappy Poll.

Running fine, you have to disable all Antivirus and firewall you may have.

I had lost of BSOD while playing farcry awith a new Geforce FX 5700LE. It overheated my system, so I took it back.

So far so good

I depends what firewall you have, I have Kerio and you have to allow a lot of programs to run when the installation is running

had a few BSOD's but I think it might have been from some crappy third party driver. It (the windows crash reporting tool) suggested that maybe my memory was bad, but so far it's testing out ok.

It's Friday, and I still haven't seen any sign of it. How do I get XP SP2?

There's an anouncement at the top of this board. There you will find a hyperlink to the new MS WinXP SP2 webpage.

Don't worry, I just found it myself.

Actually, the only SP2 that's available is intended for developers, so it's freaking huge! 272,000KB. Took me about an hour to download it at 80KB/s (note, that's Kilobytes, not kilobits, I have a 756kilobit connection, but there's 8bytes per bit.)

Any idea when the non-developers version will be out?

Lol! Of course I knew that, duh!

I just got my words mixed up. Notice, I did say that I had a 756kilobit connection but I only get about 80kilobyte download speed.

Somehow I've got to find out why that's not a 94KB download speed. :(

Huh, my connection is even higher than I thought it was. I've actually got a 768kb/s connection, that should give me a 96KB/s download speed, what gives?

Damn, bits and bytes get so damn confusing! Especially so when there's something like 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte. And other similar stuff.

Why the heck couldn't we stick to something simple, like 1000KB per MB?

Lol, I just finished reading why on that site you linked to.

2^10 = 1,024 = 1Kb
2^20 = 1, 048,576 =1Mb

of course, (2^10)(2^10)=2^20, thus you have 1024Kb = 1Mb.

Facinating! 8)

On the download speed, your bandwidth is kind of theoretical. No one actually gets the top rated speed although some come close. All kinds of things come into play here like line interference, the traffic at whatever site you are downloading from, and other variables. Check this site out.

Part of that is being eaten up by TCP/IP overhead.
