Some questions for a new build. Hardware is:
P8Z77-V asus, core I5 3570K, 8gb vengence ram,
128GB samsung 840 SSD, 1TB WD black and 660Ti gpu.
windows 7 pro 64bit. question:

Do I need Intel RST for trim to work? Of what
benefit does RST give for a non-raid system?
From the Intel forum, I have read that there are
problems with version 11.6. I think I will skip
installing as it seems to benefit raid only.

Intel Management Engine Interface V8 What does it do?
is it needed, any special requirements installing it on new system?

Can applications/games be installed to the 1TB hard drive
rather than the SSD? any special method?

No. TRIM is done by the OS.

None. Unless you were planning on using an SSD as a cache drive.

Intel Management Engine is related to remote access functions. If you're not remotely accessing your PC, you can ignore this. More info at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Act ... Technology

Yes, just make sure you change the install directory.

The only gripe I have with the guide is it says to turn of UAC. This is something you do not want to do! UAC in Windows 7 orders of magnitude less annoying than Vista's and UAC effectively gives Windows more or less UNIX-like security. And in fact, you shouldn't be running as an admin account anyway.

And people wonder why Windows has so many security "problems"

UAC is for Grandma. It only exists for Grandpa. It's a feature born out of user stupidity and a MS CYA. For Pete's sake, if you know what you're doing and where you're doing it - turn it off, leave it off and speed up your system and improve your UE.

You might as well tell me to run Linux as root.

And if you can't effectively use Windows as a standard user with normal UAC, you don't really know how to use Windows.
