I'm completely new to Windows 7.

On my old Win XP machine I used WinUtilities for registry cleaning, file cleanup, etc.

Any software you can recommend?

I prefer freeware because in the past I have tried payware for about a year but then wouldn't renew my subscription when it expired.

:)

Try Ccleaner on for size. Good at keeping internet cache under control, and the registry cleaner is one of the best for a free solution.

I second the motion!, been using it for years and never had an issue with it!

And I 3rd the motion! In addition, use CCEnhancer for even greater scrubbing and cleansing power.

A superior alternative to CCleaner with heightened functionality, look to System Ninja. Ninja is a lightweight program designed to clean your computer of unwanted junk, constantly slowing your entire system down. Like CCleaner it is a fast and powerful file cleaner, but it provides features far beyond such as Startup Manager, Process Manager, plus several useful tools such as CCEnhancer, FileAnalyzr and MalRunDestroyer.
