 Post subject: Blue Screen of Death-Have a Question

My desktop, which is still useful, and has many of my fav games installed, has a blue screen of death and Windows XP won't load. It could be a disk problem in the boot sector.

I wanted to try booting from the Windows XP CDROM, then running CHKDISK, but I can't find the original CDROM anymore.

I'm considering purchasing a new Win XP copy.

My question is, will the new disk work as a boot disk? My concern is the serial number on the new disk will be different from what's registered in the computer...
