I was asked about a software floating around on the Internet used in mass marketing via email (not spam in any way shape or form).

This software apparently takes a single email designed by the marketing department and sends it to 100's of predetermined addresses without allowing th receiver see any of the other recipients. Make sense? This is not like a blind "cc".

EX:

email goes to address A, B, C, D, and E.

Person A only sees their address in the To: section
Person B only sees their address in the To: section
Person C only sees their address in the To: section
ETC

But it is only sent once and the software splits everyone's addresses up.

I've never heard of anything like this. Do any of you have any experience with using something like this?

Thanks! You might be on to something. I'm reading up on it right now.
It did not come up on my initial search. (search Group Mail, not groupmail)

One solution is to write a script and use 'mail' (*nix cli mail program).

does BCC do the same thing? the ricipients' dont see each other... that is why the word "Blind"... otherwise it would just be a regular CC...

Yes, but there won't be a 'to:' person which is a bit disorienting. I'd be like - how and why did someone send this to me like this?

The programs exist because they make it easier to manage marketing/advertising. And you guys are really guilliable thinking that spider monkey isn't sending out spam - he's the biggest postwhore on the planet! come on. :)
