Hello Everybody!
I'm wondering if anybody knows a fast way to get malware onto a PC. I have a project that I'm working on that removes malware from a live cd. I'm just looking for suggestions on how to get malware onto a virtual machine. Thanks

MaxPC uses www.spycar.org tools. Everything is benign, and it has a rollback app, so you could even test it on your main install if you wanted.

I know about spycar but I would really prefer real malware because that's what its designed to do. Thanks though.

IF you downloaded REAL malware, NOTHING would stop it from infecting your MAIN pc. you read? Spycar is designed to emulate real malware as closely as possible. The only difference is it makes non-lethal changes.

That's not entirely true. You can take precautions that will greatly reduce your chances of the malware causing real damage, such as using VMs and spare PCs that are isolated from the rest of your network. There is still the possibility that a nasty piece of malware could still break out and cause real damage, so tread carefully and don't start testing with real malware until you are sure you know what you are doing.

I don't know of a place to get real malware, but I'd be interested in finding out.

So would I. I'm still kinda concerned about the malware breaking out, though. Besides, how would you get the malware to your isolated PC without infecting a non-isolated PC? I can see if you used a VM to DL it, (I.E. KACE) but what if it is transmitted via LAN?

That should not be a problem. Remember, when you are downloading the malware, it is just a file. Many things would have to happen for the other computers to be affected by it. First, the network would need to be using a hub (or a switch acting as a hub), then each PC would have to pay attention to the packet rather than ignore it (since it's not addressed to it). Only at this point could another PC be susceptible to the malware. There are also further steps you can take to further isolate your computer from the network (VLANS, disconnecting all other computers from your network, etc.)

True...
If you want malware, just surf unprotected while using something like KACE or using your trash PC. Then, run your anti-spyware, anti-malware and antivirus and see what they pick up.

What is KACE? I searched Google for it and the results didn't seem like they are what you are talking about.
