Hi again,
I'm now in the process of updating my laptop after a reinstall of Windows Vista and it's taking WAY TOO LONG to do this through Windows Update. Hours have gone by and it's still updating! There has got to be a better way. Any of you have any suggestions about what I should do for future installs? I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit.

Any software out there that will download all of these updates to a folder for future installs?

I'd even consider slipstreaming Vista with the latest updates if I can find some reliable info on how to do that with service packs 1 and 2, but I've read that windows auto updating wouldn't work with a slipstreamed version of Vista. Any truth to this?

well since i have a technet sub I haven't really worried about this sort of thing so much in awhile (technet has the SP integrated images for download)

7lite works, but not nearly as well as nlite did for XP. Nothing beats a well tweaked, patched and oiled slipstream!

Thanks guys, but 7lite doesn't work with Windows Vista. The recovery partition on the laptop installed all that unnecessary crap when I did reinstalls, so I wiped the drive clean and reinstalled Vista from my DVD and used the laptop key for it. However, applying all the latest updates through "Windows Update" is just a pain in the arse! No kidding, I could have actually flown from Atlanta to LA and back and my laptop would have STILL been updating!

Slipstreaming is the way to go! No doubt about it! I'll just have to find some reliable info on how to do this. I was able to do it with XP, but Vista may be more complicated.

If you are still interested in downloading the updates, it sounds like you would be interested in WSUS Offline Update or AutoPatcher.
