Windows 7 is already super fast OS from Microsoft but it can be made more fast. Windows include some Services and Task Scheduler that automatically launch modules for specific tasks. For example the Windows Installer Service is executed when you install some program made with Windows installer.

In the start search bar type services.msc and press enter. To set any service to disable or manual, double click on any service and in start type list select the Manual or Disable. Always set the service to MANUAL, never disable it, so that whenever Windows needs to start a service it can easily start and use it. If you set any service to DISABLED, Windows will not be able to start it and will give some error messages. Here is a list of services that can be safely set to MANUAL:

    Application Experience
    Desktop Window Manager Session Manager (If you don’t use Aero theme)
    Diagnostic Policy Service
    IP Helper (For IPv6 network)
    Offline Files
    Print Spooler (If you don’t have Printer or use XPS printing)
    Protected Storage
    Secondary Logon (Only use if you have two users on your computer)
    Security Center
    TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper
    Themes (If you use Windows Classic theme)
    Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
    Windows Time (If you don’t want to update system tray clock time using Internet)

Now disable some tasks in the Task Scheduler. In the start search box type task scheduler to launch it. On the left hand side expand Task Scheduler (Local) -> Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows. Now point to the following folders. When you click on a folder the tasks get loaded and then you will see a screen where different tasks will be showing. Right click and then disable them.

Folder : Task to Disable
Media Center : mcupdate
MobilePC : HotStart
Windows Media Sharing: UpdateLibrary

Reading thru that, I don't see any bad, but for (possibly) one thing:
the mcupdate task. If the PC in question is actually used as a Media Center (even one without tuners), that one needs to be left alone. Its primary use is to run Guide updates; it also runs various MC applications ('Extras') updates in the background, and (this is part of Guide updates) also retrieves Internet TV listings.
So, basically, if you use MC at all, leave that one alone. ;)

Disabling Application Experience may cause issues with older applications. It automatically deals with certain compatibility issues as they arise, so the user may end up doing more work in this area. Depending on who is using the computer, I would say leave it alone. Same goes for Diagnostic Policy Service.
