Rumor tells me that Win7 keeps loading device drivers every time it restarts, even when the device is no longer plugged in. Is there a way to tell exactly what drivers Win7 loads when it starts? I already know how to thin out the services and startup programs using services.msc and msconfig, but is there a way to demand the same with driver loading? I have a 750 Gig HDD that is about 75% full of stuff, and it takes about four minutes to boot and starting up any programs has gotten sluggish, especially at first boot.

When was the last time you defraged the hard drive?

Try going into safe mode with networking and download Malwarebytes, install it, update it and run it. You may have malware on your system.

OMG...4 minutes to boot! Run Soluto to ID all your software, drivers and crud loading at boot. Then just start whacking what you don't need. It'll guide to you to perhaps a roundabout 60 second boot depending on your innards. The program, available in beta only, gives you an at-a-glance view of your startup programs and how much time they are adding to your overall boot time. Using Soluto, you can either select just the programs you want launch or choose to have programs startup in the background later. I've been able to cut the startup times my PCs in half to just under one minute.
