I am upgrading from a platter HDD to SSD. I currently have 64bit W7home on the machine. The question I have is: Can I simply clone the current 120G HDD onto the 100G SSD? I've tried doing some research and it would appear that there may be issues with the boot sector?
If not, can I at least just make an image of my current drive and write that to the new one?
I'd like to avoid a fresh install and the time of downloading all the updates, if I can.

That depends. As long as you aren't using the full 120GB of your current hard drive you should be able to do the type of clone. The ones where you "shrink" the drive tend to be on the iffy side but if you're going from say 75GB on the mechanical hard drive to 75GB on the SSD you should be fine. Acronis True Image should be able to handle the job nicely.

Last I looked, I'm actually using around 40G, so it definitely won't max it out.

Thanks I'll look for Acronis.
