So I have these different hardware profiles setup on a WinXP Sp3 install...

Is there a way I can backup these profiles before I reformat?

Thanks
Mark

I wonder if simply backing up the sysdm.cpl file in Windows/system32 will save these profiles, or if they're actually in the registry. What does "Copy" do? In Win7, there's a "Copy to..." and you can save it to a location, but I don't see that in XP.

Never really tried it, but I think you just want to backup HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG and then add that back in after install

If it was me, I'd probably investigate backing up each profile one at a time and restoring one at a time.

I was thinking about that Furball, but doesn't HKEY_CURRENT_CONFIG sound a bit too encompassing overall? If the config stays the same, I guess it'd work fine. It's a great question, and I'm trying to ponder test solutions before the big day comes. I'm coming up with bupkis.

Are these profiles still needed Line_test? I assume you feel they are, but the way I'm reading them they seem like a testing condition. "Fastest (Unplug LAN Cable)"...what's that profile do?

I dunno...on the surface it doesn't seem to be any more then creating a .reg file and just apply it after you're done reinstalling.

From what I know of an answer file for an automated install, that will either use a VBS or reg load to apply it
