Hi,
about a week ago i was using my laptop and from one second to the next it shot me a blue screen and restarted.
Ever since then the comp would start get till the windows logo and then crash.
I tried accessing the files via safe mode with the same outcome.

I later removed the hard drive and plugged it in using an external hdd kit (which i have used many times in the past) but can not access the hard drive.
The hard drive DOES show up in Device Manager when plugged in using external kit but can not be viewed in "my computer".
I tried to recover files using a registered version of "Recover My Files" (which has worked in the past for formatted sd cards and hdd's etc...) but the 1500 files it found all have garbled text, so it is of no use to me.

The computer was running xp Sp2 with not that much going on and was virus free.
My guess is that something is terribly wrong with the hard drive or the hard drive partition.

IF ANYONE CAN PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Thanks,
Jack

OK so after 2 days of trying different software i finally found the one that fixed my hdd.
The problem was 3 bad partitions.

I used the software called "HDD Regenerator" I would highly recommend it for anyone who has the same if not similar symptoms.
The software is simple and easy to use and was able to repair my 80gb hdd in about an hour and 15 min.

Best of luck to all.

Have you looked in Disk Management and assign it a drive letter if needed?

I am simply looking for advice on what to do regarding this problem.
I am not asking you to tell me what i want to hear.
I am asking for a resolution to the problem.

If your just looking to rack up your posts and are not going to add any useful info to this thread please dont post anything.

Thanks.
Jack

So let's lay out what was said...

If you want useful, then I go back to my first question....Have you gone into disk management and assigned it a drive letter if need be?

Certainly if you don't want to take any efforts in that direction, then go buy a new HD (which is clearly the response you're looking for)

HDD Regenerator, SpinRite, HDAT2 all of these perform pretty much the same functions. With that said they are quick fixes. The idea behind these applications is they will repair any bad sectors the drive has so you can read your data again. Problems such as OS can't be found would you like to format, drive locks up machine,etc...

If HDD Regenerator fixes the issue your best bet is to backup the data and get a new drive ASAP. The drive may last a long time but in general, once there is one bad sector you are sure to get more.

Thanks for the info!

What i did a week ago was zero out the drive using killdisk.
I then reinstalled the os and put back the info (still have it backed up of course).

Lets see how far this gets me...
