I don't know where exactly to put this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong place...

I need to switch AV/security apps on my laptop (from ESET, unfortunately to Norton 360). In order to install 360, I must first uninstall ESET Smart Security 4. But Norton 360 downloads the app from the Internet after I start the installer. Is my system pretty much OK if I do this (remove ESET, run the Norton 360 installer which downloads the app) without having an AV app installed? I know you can't have two AV apps installed at the same time, so this is sort of my ONLY option. I'd obviously leave the Windows Firewall setting on, and I'm also behind the firewall on my router as well. I'd assume this process wouldn't take any more than about 15 minutes, and I obviously wouldn't be surfing the web while this was going on (or anything else for that matter).

Suggestions or opinions? Unfortunately, there is no full installer for Norton 360 (I get it free from Comcast, but the only way to get it is to download the 1MB installer, and let it download the rest of the app via the Internet connection.)

(Yes, I know ESET is one of the better AV apps to have, but I've noticed that I'm having some difficulty with a certain website I need to use on a daily basis -- in particular, my bank -- and it doesn't happen with other AV apps installed -- I have another Win7 machine, but that one has Norton installed, and not ESET, so I'm about 99% it's an ESET conflict.)

I think you'll be fine without an AV for the very small time you're going to be open for attack. If you're the least bit worried about this gap, ensure firewall is on and use essentials until you can get Norton to the install portion. It's not 100% healthy, but at least your pants aren't completely down.

You can probably get ESet to play nice with your bank's website though. Any good A/V should freak out a little on a very important website such as that! If you can just walk into your bank's account without an issue, I'd be worried myself.

I've tried just about everything to get ESET to play nicely. Even disabling the entire suite doesn't help (tried disabling the firewall first, then the AV, then both, and then other parts of the app). Eventually, I disabled the entire suite to no luck. So, I'm switching to Norton's Security Suite (which is basically Norton 360, that and because it's free from Comcast for subscribers). I'll still use ESET on my other machines, its just this particular machine I use for all of my business/work stuff, and that includes banking. My other systems are used for gaming and programming, so this wasn't an issue for them, so I'll simply keep ESET on them because I don't need to access my bank's website from them.

And, this wasn't a problem up until about two months ago. So it has to be some update that was installed by ESET (for the Smart Security 4.0 system), because it has worked fine from the time I got ESET (back in April) until about two months ago... and I don't think it's related to Windows update either. So, I've come to the conclusion that there is a problem between my bank's website and ESET (I don't have the problem logging into other SSL-enabled sites, like Hotmail or Gmail).

Anyway, Went ahead and put Norton on the computer, and things seem fine now. I guess it's better than some of the other AV apps/suites out there like TrendMicro and AVG, but it certainly isn't the best either.
