I did a clean install of win 7 on my XP machine. I posted a question the other day and for idea's but I had it under control and everything went really good. I started off new with a new unused HD and Win 7 installed fast and easy. In fact it was the easiest install I have ever done.

MY PROBLEM... I transferred all of my pertinent stuff to a transfer folder in "my documents" on the old computer but I forgot to transfer the folder to one of my back up drives. So i thought I would simply plug the old drive in to the comp and copy the files off quick and easy. Well i plugged the drive in and when I tried to access and copy the contents it said I was not the administrator and I tried and tried but could not copy the stuff to my new comp.

Any idea's??

It's not because you're not Administrator (which you're not - there's a big difference between an Administrator-level account, and the Administrator account.) Rather, it's because you don't 'own' the folder (and, with it, the folders & files within) - your account in the old Windows install owns it.
While the username might be the same, the SID is not (that's tied to the install.)

Easy fix, though: you need simply take ownership of the folder (and, be sure to tick the box that says 'replace owner on subcontainers & objects.) Then you can grant yourself Full Control on it (here, tick the box to replace permissions on child entries), and copy your data out.
Howto: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421 (written for XP; but, does apply to any NT-based Windows OS, including Win7.)
