Maximum PC

After sending my HP Pavillion in for the second time to have the video card replaced due to overheating during gaming I've decided it's time to shop for a new laptop. I'm starting to get a little out of the loop on hardware, especially video cards so my specs are fairly vague. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm looking for the following:
- $800-1200
- 17" display (+/- 1" ok)
- Suitable for gaming, mainly DX9 titles
- 3GB+ Ram
- Decent videocard
- 200 GB+ HDD
- Built in number pad, good keyboard with few key location "optimizations"

To give you an idea of what I'm looking for, I've been using this HP for the past year. Other than the overheating problem it has treated me well. I'm looking for something similar, though probably not an HP.

The first one has a faster CPU, and the second one has a faster GPU. Your call on which is more important to you.
