looking at various specs on laptops, I have yet to understand the duration and aspect of laptop battery. Like what is XXWh, as in 42Wh or 24Wh hour battery. Can't the spec labels be a little bit more friendly on giving the estimated hours and minutes of how long the battery can last or should last? I got to scratch my head on this. Is there any kind of mathematical conversion or equation to it?

more watt hours is better than less. not much more to it than that as far as the battery itself.

as for run time, it varies greatly depending on what you do, it will run a lot longer just typing in a word processor when the CPU/GPU sits idle 99% of the time as opposed to a game where CPU/GPU is maxed out and drawing max watts. HD/DVD activity, screen brightness and USB devices all take their toll too.

Whats rather odd is that most battery manufacturers use Amp-Hours to rate their batteries, not Watt-Hours.

Doing what? CPU intensive? Backlight at 100%? WLAN on? BT on? WAN on? Serial power draw? USB power draw?

No, there is no equation because only you know your use profile.

As usual, more == better.
