What are the must-have apps that all notebooks should have besides anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall?

Something your laptop shouldn't have it the bloatware its probably infested with... for example, Norton.

some sort of backup program that allows you to get the backups onto removable media or a network. notebook HDs usually take a beating.

of course a good backup system is needed for any computer, but especially for a notebook.

laptop or desk this is my must installs

Firefox (cause IE sucks chocolate salty balls)
AVG Antivirus
Threatfire anti malware
Windows Defender (the max pc free protection trinity. Note Threatfire doesn't like some configurations and with AVG may show you down)
IOBit Smart Defrag
Glary's Utilities
Folding @ Home

nekollx, that is a good list.

Personnaly, i'd add nero, or some freeware burning applications to the mix. ImgBurn is a good one, and DVD Decrypter for making backups. I hate buying a DVD then end up scratching the disc...
