I am not sure if this is the correct area of the forum.

All I am trying to find out is if my laptop will take intelcore2duo chips at the 800 mhz fsb

the model of the laptop is ACER aspire 5920G (with the mobile 8600gt)

there is only a 1.5 ghz Intel core2 processor right now at 667 fsb (t5250), I go to acer website and they are not listing this as a processor for this laptop.

i'm not sure where to go to find out, but I'd like to find out if it will take the processors at 800mhz fsb

thanks in advance :D

I highly doubt you'll find a supported processor for one main reason - heat.

Laptops are more thermally engineered than desktops, except the ultra-small-size-of-a-ream-of-paper HTPC's. While you might be able to successfully upgrade the processor in the same family a little, going to a different family of proc's typically results in a boot failure (due to an unrecognized processor), a much slower machine (due to a higher FSB processor running at the slower FSB), or a constantly shutting down due to heat.

I'm not saying you CAN'T try it, but I doubt you'll be successful.

I think you've already answered your own question

the thing is on the acer website they list processors with 800mhz fsb and up to 2.2 or 2.4 ghz

the only thermal problems ive had is the vid card :)

but I would really love to be 100% sure before I drop $200 on a higher clocked processor

ok, does anyone have a way of contacting acer about this?

an email, phone #, something?

just so I can find out for sure, and I couldn't find anything on acer's website.

I dont think you understood, they did not list the Intel T5250... which is the processor in this acer.

I checked the Intel website and found that the 965 chipset does the 800mhz fsb

i now have a 2.4 ghz with the 800mhz fsb

thanks...
