So last Friday I got my hands on a pre-production Dell Latitude XT.

I'm glad that Dell is entering the tablet market. When they enter a market it usually means the market price for that item will drop a bit.

The XT doesn't come off that much different than some of the other similar devices on the market. Still, in many ways it is slightly more impressive than most of the other tablet units I have seen.

There are a few things wrong with it that I think are attributed to it being in pre-production, but if those things are fixed, I have no doubt that many people will be looking to pick one of these things up.

I'm not going to give my own actual review of the unit because it is pre-production, but I'll mention some highlights.

The built in keyboard is amazing. I think it may be my favorite keyboard I have ever used. Why is it that a tablet convertible gets that good of a keyboard?

The screen is very bright and crisp.

The device was pretty speedy considering it is running on a ultra low voltage processor.

Vista worked well on it and as a standard computer it was pretty solid for a laptop.

Feel free to ask me questions about it if you have them.

Don't know that you're willing to try it, but I'm curious to know how well Linux would work on a tablet like that.

I had 3 hours with it, then it was taken and shipped across the country. So I couldn't tell you.

But I would assume it would run fine in laptop mode once drivers were designed for it. But as far as a tablet goes, I'm not sure.
