Help!

I want to buy a new laptop for my job as a technical writer. It has to be fast and powerful. I run graphics programs and need the speed.

I cant decide between a Core 2 Duo 2.33 Ghz or an AMD Turion 64 X2 2.2 Ghz processor.

Also, will either or both of these processors support the new SODIMM 2Gb memory modules (as in 4Gb of memory?)

Anyone with experience on this issue, please give me some guidance. Specs on your fast rig would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Anthony Wozniak

The C2D. Even a 2GHz C2D would be faster.

Do you mean 4 gigabits of RAM or gigabytes?

Only a 64-Bit OS will be able to see all 4 gigabytes. I think most of Intel's C2Ds have support for 64-Bit now.

4 gigabits would be 500 megabytes which isn't that much.

C2D is a faster CPU than the AMD's, The amount of RAM you can use depends on your motherboard not your CPU. If your motherboard says it can handle 4GB, in Windows 32-bit only about 3.2 GB will be reported, Windows 64-bit will report 4 GB. As far as fast CPU for graphic apps CPU usually not so important GPU carries most the load. Either CPU you mentioned should do fine with any current apps C2D a little faster but AMD still good and should cost less. From what you described both of these CPU might be more than you need.
