Hi all! Just wondering on your opinions on the two choices of laptop ive come down to.

the first one is an ASUS laptop from newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductde ... 056&DEPA=3

the second is a simlilarly specd one as the ASUS except with a 1.8Ghz PentiumM, a 128mb 9600pro turbo Mobility vs 64mb version on the asus, 512 1dimm ram instead of 768 on ASUS, and no dual dvd (not sure if the drive on the ASUS is a burner or not). Other than that, the ASUS comes with lots o goodies like a carrying case and such. Ive never dealt with dells's build quality before or that of ASUS, but i like the looks of the ASUS. The dell configuration came to about 2110 after a rebate my dad had. decisions decisions. what do you guys think?

thx for any advice/help/comments etc

ps the new forum looks great =)

According to newegg's specs, the second one has
Graphics: ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700, 128 MB DDR

although it has 256MB less of RAM.

I like the second one better.

They both use the same DVD drive it seems:
DVD-R/RW: 4X/2X, DVD+R/RW: 4X/2.4X, CD-R/RW: 16X/10x, DVD: 8X, CD:24X

Nice laptop either way, kickass stuff to go along with it...a bag, kickass software bundle, buncha other hardware stuff.

I strongly suggest getting a laptop with a Pentium M CPU. The Power-to-Battery Life benefits are tremendous! I have a 1.5GHz PentiumM/MR 9600 Pro Turbo, and I can play games on the battery for no less than 2 hours.

The only reason not to get a PentiumM is if you are going to have it plugged into the wall constantly. If that's the case save yourself some cash and get the P4-M instead.

But I mean, isn't the point of a laptop that you can use it unplugged? I am eminently happy with mine...

I think either one would be a good choice. I like dell personally, but asus has been kick some ass. Its a choice you will need to make.

Decisions, Decisions. :)

lol i dunno. the dell does carry a premium over the acer....but but the ferrari 3200 acer is sooo beautiful and has some ooomph to boot. 300m is well......not my preference, too weak in my opnion. i want portability, but not at the sacrifice of some power =)

the acer does say it can last for up to 3hrs on battery power, but when im in the library at uni im going to be using the ac outlet. (plenty there) the poitn is, when im moving around im hardly going to be doing something like playing games, only when im stationary, and if i want, i could always get another battery =)

If you're going to be plugged in most of the time then your best bet is going to be the P4-M. And make sure you get a 802.11g card with it.

My battery lasts over 4 hours when I'm just browsing the net and playing MP3s, btw. the 2 hours figure is when I am gaming away...

not even going to consider the P4's, M or otherwise. tried my freind's dell and it gets kinda warm. id get the dell 1.8ghz pentium M 8600, but i dont like the weight of the thing. the 9600 pro turbo in it is good so i could live with that, but id prefer the 9700 if i could. The dell looks nice, but the acer is just damn sexy.....arrrg *bangs head against wall* too...many....decisions......anyone know how well the mobile athlon 64's perform in comparison the to the new Pentium M's?
