my buddy just purchased a laptop at a garage sale and the lady didnt know anything about it. well when he goes to boot it up it says this computer is protected by password protection yadayadayada. well were kinda in the dark till tuesday because they arent tech savvy themselfs. does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you try taking the cmos battery and the other battery out...someone made a post with a list of manufacturer passwords, couldn't find it though.

well the problem is im 700 miles away and theyre telling me this over the phone lol. im pretty much just gonna have to tell them to wait till tuesday (when i go home :D )

Just an FYI, if I remove the two screws that hold the KB on in my thinkpad, I can pry the keyobard off and underneath of that is the CMOS battery.

Is it a BIOS password or a windows password? Im assuming you mean a bios password, you said it happens right away on power up. But in the case that it is a windows password.....safe mode will let you in and you can change anything....doesn't ms security blow your mind?
