Ok so I am finally ready to make a decision on a laptop. You may have come to recognize me by now as I have had more then a few threads over the last 4 months or so asking questions. I would first like to thank everyone who responded to those threads and helped me out thus far.

As far as price and accessibility go I have decided to buy from Lenovo. They offer me free shipping in Canada which is a big deal.

Lenovo has a sale right now and I basically have a few different choices.. but I am really out of touch with mobile parts so this is where I need the help in getting the best bang for my buck.

The cheapest choice is the IdeaPad Y410 with the following specs:

4th Generation Intel Core i5-4200M Processor (2.50GHz 1600MHz 3MB)
-
Operating System
Windows 8 64
-
Display
14.0" HD Glare with integrated camera 1366x768
-
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB
-
Memory
6.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
-
Hard Drive
500GB 5400 RPM
-
Optical Drive
DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
-
Network Card
Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230
-
Bluetooth
Bluetooth Version 4.0
-
Warranty
One year
-
Pointing Device
Industry Standard Multi-touch 2 button touchpad
-
Battery
6 Cell Lithium-Ion

I can get it for $749, for $100 more I can upgrade the CPU to: 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB), the dispaly to 14.0" HD+ Glossy LED Backlit with integrated camera 1600x900 and the GPU to NVIDIA GeForce GT755M GDDR5 2GB.

Now again I am no expert on these parts I don't know what kind of performance increase I am going to notice with these upgrades, but even a small upgrade to CPU, GPU and display for $100 seems worth it to me.

The other options I have would be to go up to a Idea Pad Y510. The biggest change here is the monitor goes up to a 15.6" from a 14". For $909.00 I come out with the following specs:

Processor
4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB)
-
Operating System
Windows 8 64
-
Display
15.6" FHD LED Glare Wedge 1920x1080
-
Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT750M GDDR5 2GB
-
Memory
8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz
-
Hard Drive
1TB 5400 RPM+24GB SSD
-
Optical Drive
DVD Recordable (Dual Layer)
-
Network Card
Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230
-
Bluetooth
Bluetooth Version 4.0
-
Warranty
One year
-
Battery
6 Cell Lithium-Ion

So from what I can tell aside from the display being bigger with a higher resolution, the GPU goes back down to a 750M from a 755M, but I do add in a 24gig SSD. I don't really care a whole lot about the bigger display and what might end up happening is I might swap out the HDD in the more expensive Y410 for an SSD anyway, so I am leaning towards the more expensive Y410.

Thoughts?

forget about the wider screen display, the IdeaPad Y410 is already a good buy. You can do pretty much anything with it same as the more expensive one
