So, long story short; my house was broken into last week and they got my laptop. So, it's replacement time. I was looking at tis one:

MSI

Any thoughts? Pro? Con?

Thanks in advance!

The single biggest reason not to buy it is that for the same price, MSI will sell you a Haswell-based system with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M.

From what the review showed as well, performance is really lacking for a laptop at that price range and even though it gets noticeably better battery life while web surfing, that battery life may as well go to waiting for things to be done.

Hmmm… good point. Though, correct me if I am wrong, but the 7970M is a better GPU than the 765M correct? If that statement is true then I would be getting a better CPU by going with the Haswell option but taking a hit in the GPU department. Is there something I am missing?

If you take a look at the benchmarks, the laptop performs over half as worse in many tests than a laptop with a supposedly weaker GPU. The problem is that the CPU is underperforming, so it will drag the GPU down with it.

Ok, point taken. Take two. How about this one? It's $100 more expensive.

MSI 2

Though I am not dead set or even concerned that it be this brand. Any decent brand near or just north of $1000 will do if I can get better value for my money.

And thanks for your advice.

That will perform much better. I have a laptop with the same specs.
