Hi,

Well i have 1600 to spend, and ive been wanting to make my own laptop. I saw the Asus W2V today in a doc. and i must say it looks quite nice. Here are the feautres i want in the laptop.

Support for Centrino cpus 533 mhz fsb
DDR-2
Pci-e graphics that is upgradeable
15 inch screen or bigger

My main problem is this, how upgradable are the graphics modules? Since before you couldnt upgrade with AGP gpus in a laptop, are all gpus in pci-e format for laptops upgradeable?

As can be seen on this page, http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/mobile ... 559_2.html
this 3d card module is upgradeable. But how many laptops have it? Are they all the same? More importantly, where can i buy them at? I plan on getting a cheap gpu for now, and then upgrading it to say a x800 mobile.

My last question would be, when will the dual core laptops come out and will they be based on the same chipset as the current centrinos or will it require a whole new layout?

Thanks.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Intel may do a socket change for the dual core Pentium M chips.

upgradeability for laptop GPU's is still somewhat dubious, and typically quite expensive. It can be done, however, but your still only buying a chance at upgradeability. If the PSU of the laptop can't handle increased power requirements, or it requires a mobo change, expenses go up and chances go down. Still it has been done and can be done with some laptops like the Clevo models, just don't expect too many generations of options. This is also not a feature commonly found on most laptops, since the GPU is often soldered to the mb, and future cards may not adhere to the same form factor, so they mght not fit.
