okay, i cant believe im asking this, but...laptop hard drives, do all laptops withith the last....oh i dont know...4 years sport the same size hard disks, meaning physical size, like 2.5" , and are there different...well laptop hard disk form factors? I have a compaq N1050V that needs a new drive, and getting a new one from compaq is going to cost way too much, its only a 30 gig drive...so i want to just shop around...ebay maybe...but i want to make sure the new drive is going to fit in the bay...

why dont you open your laptop by yourself and see?

Not all 2.5" HDDs are the same.

There are two main form factors: 9mm and 12.5mm (or 9.5mm and 12mm, I can't friggin remember which gets the half). Most drives today are 9mm and 9mm drives can fit into any laptop, including the 12.5mm bays.

Dell was big on the 12.5mm drives a few years ago but I think they may have switched over.
