What advantages are there to having a laptop with the glossy screens?

Colors look much more vibrant, and blacks look deeper. The problem is glare. If you have any light in your room, the black screen shows every reflection when black is displayed.

So I am looking to purchase a laptop for school. One that I will take almost anywhere. If I am using it outside what's better? Or is it a wash?

it comes down to preference. If you can live with constantly seeing a reflection of yourself/the room behind you, then the glossy screens do seem deeper and richer. Can't stand the refelction myself, and while some might say the the extra layer protects the lcd, to me it just seems like one more thing to break. Never tried to use a glossy outside, so not sure how it would handle it.

glossy screens tends to show up the grimy fingerprints alot more, but it is very easy to clean, compare to the ordinary lcd screens.

I hate gloss, for my car yes gloss is good...but when I am try to do a project I really don't need to see everything that’s going on behind me.
(That’s why I don't like the PSP...preparatory [SP] DVDs, gloss screen, costs more than my car, ECT.)

Really, it's a personal thing.
