hi I am totally lap top illiterate. I have built quite a number of desktop mahines tho & one of my friends asked me to see if i could fix his compaq 1255. I tore it open & behold the power plug was broken off inside it & loose. I can see that it has snapped the connector & looks like it was only hot glued on from the oem. If I solder the broken connection(only one pin sticking into the mobo) & hot glue the unit back into place will this work or should i have him spring for a new mobo. I just wanted to get someone more knowlegeables opinion before I started working on it.

Is he holding you responsible if it doesn't work or you screw it up?

No he wants to get it working but he wants to spend as little cash on it as possible. Replacing the mobo would get it going for sure but patching would be lots cheaper as the mobo is really hard to find & runs about $110.

Yeah, if it's broke already, I doubt you can break it more. Worth a shot anyway. Let us know how you make out!
