Personally I prefer Palm.

But it sounds like you're set on getting a WinCE/Windows Mobile 2003 type device.

Although I am leaning towards the Dell Axim X50v I have not made my final decision so Palm is not out of contention, I am the type that when purchasing electronics specifically computer related electronics I want to get the best. I do not trick out my car but when it comes to computers, I try to get the best/most powerful parts I can.

You'll probably want the Dell then, they're using the 600Mhz XScale, Palm is still using the 400Mhz XScale.

I support over 200 PDA's and smartphones at work, and find that the Windows Mobile devices are no more or less stable then the PC os. The Palm os is much more stable and has been around longer, so the bugs and kinks have been basically worked out of it by now. What features are you looking for in a PDA? Do you want a dedicated PDA, or will Smartphone work for you as well? If you decide to choose a Windows based device, the iPaq is still the leader and the best of the windows based ones (tho Dells are nice, but not very feature rich). While Palmsource is all the is left in the Palm OS marketplace.

Dell is more stable. The 6315 (I have one) has phone issues, and I have to soft reset it daily because it freezes.

I have a Dell X50v and it's been problematic to say the least. My last PDA was a Handspring Visor which just flatlined bigtime. So I got the Dell because of their reputation and all the reviews that hailed it as "Gods gift to the PDA kingdom". I've had it for about 3 months now and after about 3 hard resets and a soft reset about weekly, I think I've finally got it down. I got a couple of CF/SD cards, both 1GB each for apps and storage. This really helped since I used up the onboard memory which made me have to do a hard reset and re-do everything (system locked up). The Dell PDA is great once it's configured correctly. The only gripe I have now is the wireless speed. The Axim has 802.11b integrated. Not bad, but it's like being on dial-up. But hey, not a bad trade off when you're at work and need to surf. Maybe Dell will figure out a way to upgrade it to the 'g' spec in the future, if it's possible.

So far the Dell AXIM 50v that I recieved is working fine I have had no probles as of yet except those that come with learning a new device. The construction apears to be of good quailty I haope that it holds up over time.
