Check the ads in the Sunday paper.

You'll find better deals there then online. For example, a $999 Toshiba laptop may only be $789, but you have to go to the store for pickup and they're usually not offered online.

If you don't mind a refurbished/reconditioned laptop, I just pointed another person over to a site where they start at about $400, you can even buy an extended warrenty for $139.

I'd rather see a cheap new lappy than a used. Wouldn't get a Celeron either. Do not buy off of Ebay.

Friend bought his daughter a laptop off of ebay- paid about $600, I get it a year later to fix- it crashes, power cord needs rubber band to work, battery dead. Why he didn't send it back- I don't know. The laptop is shot. We put a new fan plate in it took out any Win updates so it doesn't crash. The mobo is shot, so not sure how long she'll get out of it but they wanted it to work for a while till they could get something else for her.

Check Best Buy for specials. I found my dad a Compaq 2105US for $700- brand new in box. I'd bought my kid a floor model Compaq from BB & did the same for Dad- the kids was fine, Dad's had to go back. Needless to say, when I went to BB armed with letters from Compaq saying Dad's laptop had been sold 3x at various BB, they made me happy when they "found" this 2105 US in the back.

Check surplus stores - I got my reconditioned A22m for a fair price. Occasionaly they get in huge quantities of barely-used stuff you can get at a bargain. The good stores check all the stuff before they sell it too.
