I'm looking at a computer with this processor and was wondering if anyone has one or can give any feedback about it. I am useless in the world of laptops.

Is it a Transmeta TM8620 with a Nvidia FX go?

Shoot us a link to the laptop and tell us what you intend to do with it.

Transmeta Crusoe CPUs are fairly underpowered for anything more that word processing or watching DVDs. You'd be much better off with an Ultra-Low Voltage Pentium M, IMO.

You're a generation behind now though - the Effecions (or whatever they're called) shipped and are suppose to be 50% faster than the Crusoes.

Yeah, but 50% faster is still slower than a ULV Pentium-M. I didn't say anything about the Efficions, because I don't know much about them, and they're not as wide-spread as the Crusoe.

How do you know their slower if you don't know anything about em? :)

The reviews will be interesting, and they just might have better battery life than P-M which is a more important performance metric to some people.

If your claim that the Efficeion is 50% faster is true, then that would make them slower than the ULV P-M.

Still, I am waiting to hear more about the Effeicion before I make up my mind about it.

Well, that is what Transmeta claims, and according to one of the review sites that should put them somewhere in the ball park with the other mobile cpu companies.

IIRC, they're even talking about using these chips in pda's.... it would be a winxp pda. That would be cool.
