Maximum PC

I'm interested in going to school for web development. Until I get get enrolled, are there any books you guys can recommend me reading to get my foot in the door (like what subjects should I check out)? I'm wanting to create different sites for businesses and maybe a design template site.

I recommend the '... for Dummies' line. Despite the insulting title, they are quite well written and very informative. Since you're a complete novice, I think you'll find that these will be a good starting point.

Honestly, the market is pretty saturated with people who just do design work. If you want to make decent money, you want to be a web developer, not a web designer. The difference is in the code .. a designer makes things pretty, while a developer makes sites that WORK. DB backends, store fronts, payment integration, custom scripting .. this is where people make money.

Inertia is your enemy when you've no forward movement ... this is what I meant.

Remember that inertia is the conservation of momentum. Since she hasn't started, inertia keeps her still. Once she got the ball rolling, so to speak, inertia is the principle that keeps it moving (rather, that maintains her momentum).
