I want to go into IS (Internet Security) and IT (be like my mom and work on VTLs and other stuff like that). Can I be an intern and do this stuff?

Yes.

Ask your mom.

Note: Be an IT or IS tech. What classes would I need for IS?

My mom is not a security person. She know all the basics and more about IT than you could imagine. IS is not her strong point. That is why I am asking you!

You have to study IT before you can study IS. You have to know how things work before you can secure them .. for obvious reasons.

When you get the point that IS and IT separate, you'll know it. They don't, really, because IS is a subset of IT ... but when it comes time to choose the correct courses, you'll know.

In the meantime, take the best courses that you can for a general IT education ... every math and programming course you can get your hands on.

I also strongly recommend maintaining and upgrading your communication skills. Literate IT people who can communicate with developers, engineers, clients, laypeople and management are extremely rare and valuable.

Also forums help alot. any information technology question you have, just ask in the computer forums. I gained alot of my IT knowledge through forums, not school.

Im not saying don't go to school, which I am a college graduate myself, but I am just saying the information on the forums prepares you more for the real world.

That is true of some fields .. tech support, perhaps, or building PCs ... but when it comes to programming and IS, you won't find nearly as much information in forums as you will in a good classroom.
